Pelfrey aims to help Mets sweep Diamondbacks

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Rookie Mike Pelfrey looks to build on his best outing of the year as the New York Mets go for a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.

Pelfrey (0-3, 6.75 ERA) will be the latest pitcher to take the mound as the Mets try and extend their winning streak in Arizona to 14 games.

Jorge Sosa pitched six strong innings in a spot start for Orlando Hernandez and Shawn Green helped beat his former team by driving in three runs in a 6-2 win on Saturday. The Mets have dominated the Diamondbacks in their current streak, outscoring them 104-29 in those 13 games.

The ninth overall pick of the 2005 draft, Pelfrey is in search of his first win of the season after getting a no-decision on Monday. He allowed three runs and five hits in 6 1/3 innings as the Mets fell, 5-2, to Florida.

Pelfrey retired 17 of the last 20 batters he faced and was markedly better than his previous two starts when he allowed 10 runs in eight innings.

Meanwhile, Arizona will send Livan Hernandez (2-1, 3.55) to the mound looking to avoid a sweep and their fifth straight loss.

Hernandez displayed his uncanny stamina by throwing 124 pitches in his last start. He allowed one run and six hits in six inning and received a no-decision in a 2-1 loss to Los Angeles.
