RHP Burnett tries to end Toronto's woes in Texas
May 6, 2007 - 3:33 PM Toronto (13-17) at Texas (12-18) 3:05 pm EDTARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) -- A.J. Burnett has never pitched at Ameriquest Field in Arlington. He should consider that a good thing.
Burnett (2-2, 5.45 ERA) takes the mound hoping to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to only their fourth win in their last 19 games at the Texas Rangers on Sunday.
Even former Cy Young Award winner Roy Halladay could not help Toronto get a win in Texas and snap its season-high five-game skid. Halladay absorbed his worst start of the season Saturday, giving up nine runs and 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings in an 11-4 loss.
Now Burnett gets his chance to stop the skid. In order to do so he will have to be better than his last start.
The righthander allowed seven runs and eight hits in five innings in a 12-4 loss to the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday. However, Burnett has pitched well in two previous outings against the Rangers, allowing five runs and 10 hits in 14 1/3 innings over two starts.
Burnett's opposition is also coming off a horrible start, as Kameron Loe (1-2, 7.04) was rocked for nine runs - seven earned - and 10 hits in four innings of a 10-1 loss to the New York Yankees on Tuesday.
Michael Young went 3-for-5 with five RBI in Saturday's game as the Rangers recorded a season-high 15 hits.
