Carmona returns from minors, takes mound as Indians face Orioles
May 7, 2007 - 1:43 PM Cleveland (18-10) at Baltimore (14-17) 12:35 pm EDTBALTIMORE (Ticker) -- Fausto Carmona is back from his brief stay in the minors.
Carmona takes the mound Monday when the Cleveland Indians wrap up a four-game series with the Baltimore Orioles.
The righthanded Carmona (2-1, 3.76 ERA) was pitching well but was sent down to Class AAA Buffalo last week to make room for the return of lefthander Cliff Lee, who missed the first month of the season due to injury.
However, the Indians were forced to recall Carmona to replace Jake Westbrook (abdomen), who was placed on the disabled list.
In his last three starts, Carmona has gone at least six innings and has not allowed more than two runs.
The 24-year-old Dominican will be glad to see the Orioles, as he came within two outs of a complete game in a 6-1 win against them last Sunday.
Carmona will be opposed by Steve Trachsel (1-3, 4.08), who allowed three runs and eight hits in seven innings in a 3-2 loss to Detroit on Wednesday.
After dropping the first two games in this series, Cleveland roared back with a 9-6 victory Sunday.
Trot Nixon went 5-for-5 with four RBI and C.C. Sabathia logged seven strong innings for the Indians, who have won 11 of their last 14 games.
