Davis takes mound for streaky Diamondbacks

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Doug Davis and the Arizona Diamondbacks hope to start another upward swing.

Davis takes the mound Monday when the streaky Diamondbacks host the Philadelphia Phillies in the opener of a three-game series.

Arizona has had two six-game winning streaks but also has lost five straight contests twice. The Diamondbacks snapped their most recent five-game skid with a 3-1 win over the New York Mets on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Phillies snapped a two-game losing streak of their own with an 8-5 win over San Francisco on Monday.

Davis (2-3, 2.25 ERA) lost his last start despite yielding only one unearned run in a 2-1 loss to Los Angeles last Wednesday. The lefthander has been outstanding over his last three outings, allowing just three earned runs over 20 innings.

Philadelphia will send Freddy Garcia (1-2, 6.05) to the mound as they start the final leg of their 10-game road trip. Garcia has yet to pitch into the sixth inning in any of his four starts this season.

Reigning National League MVP Ryan Howard snapped out of a 4-for-16 slump with a two-run homer in Sunday night's win.
