Indians look to stay hot against Angels
May 8, 2007 - 2:20 PM Cleveland (19-10) at LA Angels (17-15), 10:05 pm EDTANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- A pair of first-place teams meet on Tuesday when the Cleveland Indians visit the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
While the Indians have won 12 of 15, the Angels have been moving in the opposite direction with just one win in their last five games.
Cliff Lee (0-0, 7.50 ERA) starts his second game of the year for the Indians. The lefthander, who suffered an abdominal strain in spring training, made his season debut on Thursday but did not get a decision. Lee allowed five runs and nine hits in six innings in the team's 6-5 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Angels will counter with Ervin Santana (2-4, 5.50), who has lost back-to-back starts for the second time this season. After losing two consecutive starts in April, Santana had his best outing of the year, holding the Seattle Mariners to one run and six hits in seven innings.
The Angels' 12 wins at home is tops in the AL. They're batting .305 at Angel Stadium this season and team's pitchers have posted a 3.04 ERA here. In 15 road games, the team is batting .248 and the pitching staff has a 4.46 ERA.
Cleveland's Trot Nixon has eight hits in his last 10 at-bats, including six RBI. Travis Hafner hit his ninth career grand slam in the Indians 10-1 win against Baltimore on Monday.
The Indians won two of three when the teams met in Cleveland last month.
