Owings, Diamondbacks look to clinch series vs. Phillies

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks send rookie Micah Owings to the mound Tuesday looking to clinch a series win over the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Diamondback took the first game of the series Monday, 4-3, on the strength of an eighth-inning RBI single by youngster Carlos Quentin. The Phillies had fought back to tie the score in the top of the frame on consecutive doubles by Aaron Rowand and Wes Helms, but their suspect bullpen yielded the game-winner.

Owings (1-1, 3.38 ERA) pitched well enough to win in his last outing on Thursday, but Jose Valverde blew the save and the rookie had to settle for a no decision. Owings allowed three runs and five hits in six innings against the New York Mets.

Philadelphia will counter with Adam Eaton (3-2, 8.18). The veteran righthander picked up a win last Thursday at San Francisco, despite surrendering six runs and eight hits in five innings.

Eaton, who signed a three-year $24.5 million deal in the offseason with the team that originally drafted him, has had just one quality start in six outings this season.

The Diamondbacks have won two straight on the heels of a five-game skid.
