LHP Glavine takes mound in search of win No. 294
May 8, 2007 - 2:52 PM NY Mets (19-12) at San Francisco (17-14) 10:15 pm EDTSAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- Tom Glavine has not received a lot of support from his teammates as he pursues his 300th career win.
Glavine (3-1, 3.27 ERA) looks for win No. 294 when he takes the mound against the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday in the middle game of a three-game series.
The 41-year-old lefthander has allowed more than three runs just once in his last four starts. However, he has been burned by lack of run support. New York provided Glavine with just four runs in his last 12 innings, leaving him with three no-decisions.
The former Cy Young Award winner will look to get the Mets back on track after losing two straight. Bengie Molina hit two homers in the fifth inning as the Giants posted a 9-4 win on Monday.
San Francisco scored all nine runs with two outs off Oliver Perez in the fifth, thanks in part to a pair of errors.
Glavine will be opposed by 22-year-old Matt Cain (1-2, 3.08), who is coming off his worst start of the season. Cain allowed seven runs and eight hits in three innings, marking his shortest outing of the season.
