Blue Jays to continue on without Halladay

TORONTO (Ticker) -- The rash of injuries affecting the Toronto Blue Jays has been staggering.

The Blue Jays will be trying to put the pieces back together on Saturday when they host the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

On Friday, the Blue Jays placed their ace Roy Halladay on the disabled list and then watched their third baseman limp into the dugout in the first inning against the Devil Rays. Troy Glaus likely will not play on Saturday with a foot injury.

Dustin McGowan (0-0, 9.00 ERA) will get the start for Toronto. The 25-year-old righthander is being thrust into the starting rotation with Halladay, Gustavo Chacin and Victor Zambrano all on the DL.

McGowan got roughed up in his first start of the season on May 3. He yielded five runs and six hits in five innings at Cleveland, but did not earn a decision.

Tampa Bay will counter with Edwin Jackson (0-5, 6.99). The 23-year-old righthander has yet to earn a win this season. He has surrendered 28 runs - 22 earned - in 28 1/3 innings.

The Devil Rays will try to snap a five-game losing streak.
