RHP Colon looks for 12th straight win over Texas

May 12, 2007 - 1:12 PM LA Angels (20-16) at Texas (14-21) 3:45 pm EDT

ARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) -- Bartolo Colon's injury will not stop him from facing a team he loves to pitch against.

Colon (3-0, 3.46 ERA) takes the mound for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim against the Texas Rangers in the second game of a three-game series.

The burly righthander left his last start against the Chicago White Sox last Sunday after seven innings with a right triceps strain, but appears to be fine. That is bad news for the Rangers, who have lost 11 straight games against Colon.

Colon, who missed most of last year with a torn rotator cuff, is only one of three active pitchers to win 10 consecutive starts against one team. Pedro Martinez won 12 straight against Seattle from 1998-2004, and Mike Mussina won 10 in a row vs. Minnesota from 1992-1996.

The last time Texas beat Colon was in August 2003 when he was a member of the Chicago White Sox. Before he left the game on Sunday, Colon had allowed just two runs and five hits in seven innings in a 4-3 loss.

Kameron Loe (1-2, 5.76) will be looking to put an end to Colon's success against the Rangers. After getting pounded by the Yankees for 10 runs in four innings, Loe bounced back by limiting Toronto to one run and three hits in 6 2/3 innings, but did not factor in the decision on Sunday.

The Angels took the series opener, 6-3, behind John Lackey, who allowed three runs and five hits in 8 1/3 innings. Sammy Sosa prevented him from notching his fifth career complete game by hitting a two-run homer in the ninth, the 596th home run of his career.
