Young looks to continue home success for Padres
May 12, 2007 - 1:44 PM St Louis (14-19) at San Diego (19-17) 10:05 pm EDTSAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Chris Young aims to continue his home success when the San Diego Padres take on the St. Louis Cardinals in the second game of a three-game series at Petco Park on Saturday.
A 6-10 righthander, Young (4-2, 3.29 ERA) was traded to the Padres from Texas prior to last season and posted an 11-5 record with a 3.46 ERA in 31 starts in 2006. He has continued to pitch well this campaign - especially at home.
Young will be aiming for his fourth straight win at Petco Park, dating back to September 22. This season, he has tossed 15 scoreless innings, allowing just seven hits and five walks in two starts here.
The Padres got back on track Friday as ace Jake Peavy tossed seven great innings and Russell Branyan belted two homers to snap a three-game losing streak with a 7-0 victory over the Cardinals.
San Diego had not lost four straight contests since August 14-17. During their skid, the Padres managed just seven runs and they matched that mark on Friday.
With Friday's loss, the Cardinals have gone 4-3 after a season-high five-game losing streak. St. Louis will counter Saturday with Braden Looper (4-2, 2.66), who has been the Cardinals' most reliable starter since moving into the rotation from the bullpen.
In his last outing, the righthander allowed one run and six hits in six innings in a 3-1 win over Houston last Sunday.
