Rangers look for split in series finale with Angels
May 14, 2007 - 1:08 PM LA Angels (21-17) at Texas (15-22) 2:05 pm EDTARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) - The Texas Rangers look to ride the momentum of a thrilling victory when they host the Los Angeles Angels in the finale of a four-game series Monday.
Nelson Cruz hit walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning on Sunday to give the Rangers a 7-6 victory.. The Rangers, who beat the Angels for the first time in six tries this season, rallied from three deficits before the decisive long ball.
The teams combined to hit eight home runs Sunday. Kevin Millwood (2-3, 5.88 ERA) is expected to return from the disabled list to make his seventh start of the season for the Rangers. The veteran righthander has been sidelined since April 28 with a hamstring injury.
The Angels counter with Jered Weaver (1-3, 4.26) who has been effective of late. The 6-7 righthander has allowed just four runs in 17 2/3 innings over his last three starts.
Weaver posted a 3.66 ERA in three starts against Texas last season but did not record a decision.
Vladimir Guerrero continues his dominance against Texas pitching. For his career, the slugger is batting .356 (100-for-281) with 21 home runs with 51 RBI in 59 games against Texas.
Gary Matthews Jr., who signed with the Angels as a free agent after playing for the Rangers last season, homered twice on Sunday and is batting .383 (31-for-81) with six homers and 19 RBI in his last 20 games.
Mark Teixiera has an 11-game hitting streak, the longest by a Ranger this season. During the streak, he is batting .432 (19-for-44) with three home runs and 18 RBI. In the process, he has has raised his average from .223 to .290.
The Rangers have been outscored 27-8 in the first inning this season.
