Marlins look to LHP Willis to end skid

PITTSBURGH (Ticker) - Trying to stop a three-game losing streak, the Florida Marlins send ace Dontrelle Willis to the mound Monday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Despite an impressive record, Willis (5-2, 5.40 ERA) has not pitched all that well. The lefthander has allowed at least four earned runs in each of his five starts, going 2-2 during that span.

The Marlins are hoping Willis could help them bounce back from a three-game sweep at the hands of the lowly Washington Nationals. Florida has lost seven of its last nine games overall.

Pittsburgh lost two of three games here over the weekend to Atlanta. But the Pirates did avoid a sweep with a 13-2 win Sunday.

The Pirates send Tom Gorzelanny (4-2, 2.72) to the mound. The 24-year-old lefthander has been a surprise this season, allowing two runs or fewer in five of his seven starts.
