LHP Glavine continues push toward 300th win vs. Cubs

FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) - Tom Glavine hopes to move closer to the 300-win mark Monday when he takes the mound for the New York Mets against the Chicago Cubs in the opener of a four-game series.

Still showing that he has plenty left at age 41, Glavine (4-1, 2.98 ERA) is six wins shy of reaching 300 in a career that likely will land him in the Hall of Fame.

Glavine is unbeaten in his last six starts, going 3-0 during that span. The lefthander is 14-13 lifetime against the Cubs.

Glavine's opposition will be Jason Marquis (5-1, 1.70), who has allowed just one run over his last 17 innings. The righthander has won his last five starts, allowing more than one run just once during that span.

Marquis is 5-4 with a 3.96 ERA in 11 career starts against the Mets.

Cliff Floyd will be making his first trip back to Shea Stadium, where he played four seasons, before signing with Chicago as a free agent this past offseason.

The Cubs hope to have first baseman Derrek Lee in the lineup. He left Sunday's game against Philadelphia in the second inning with neck spasms.
