Brewers look to get RHP Vargas back on track
May 15, 2007 - 2:05 PM Milwaukee (25-13) at Philadelphia (18-20) 7:05 pm EDTPHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Claudio Vargas is just the man to get the Milwaukee Brewers back on track.
Vargas (3-0, 2.65 ERA) takes the mound as the Brewers continue their four-game series with the Philadelpia Phillies on Tuesday.
Milwaukee came into its weekend series with the New York Mets riding a six-game winning streak, but lost two of three. After falling 8-6 to Phildelphia on Monday, the Brewers have lost two straight for the first time since the opening week of the season.
The Brewers had been 21-0 when leading after seven innings until Derrick Turnbow blew a 6-2 lead in the eighth inning.
Milwaukee is 6-0 when Vargas takes the ball. However, Vargas is just 1-3 with a 6.49 ERA in 10 starts against the Phillies.
Vargas will be opposed by Adam Eaton (3-3,7.42), who is 2-0 with a 5.24 ERA in four starts vs. the Brewers. Eaton came through with his best performance of the season, allowing three runs and seven hits in seven innings in a 3-2 loss to Arizona last Tuesday.
Philadelphia, which has won four of five, will be without National League MVP Ryan Howard, who was placed on the disabled list on Saturday with a strained left quadriceps.
