Sanchez, Pirates look to stay hot vs. Marlins

PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Freddy Sanchez leads the rejuvenated Pittsburgh Pirates as they look for their third straight win on Tuesday against the slumping Florida Marlins.

The reigning National League batting champion, Sanchez has collected seven hits in the last two games after suffering through a 4-for-16 slump.

Overall, Pittsburgh has scored 20 runs over the last two games after managing just nine in the previous four contests.

Paul Maholm (2-4, 5.40 ERA) takes the mound looking to send Florida to its fifth straight loss.

Maholm picked up a win in his last start despite allowing three home runs against the Chicago Cubs last Thursday. The lefthander allowed four runs and seven hits in 7 1/3 innings.

Florida will counter by sending Sergio Mitre to the mound. Mitre (0-2, 2.13) is looking for his first win despite the fact that he threw eight shutout innings last Thursday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Josh Willingham hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning off Derek Lowe to give Florida a 3-0 victory.
