Phillies try to hand Brewers fourth consecutive defeat
May 16, 2007 - 1:56 PM Milwaukee (25-14) at Philadelphia (19-20) 7:05 pm EDTPHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Brewers have yet to lose four games in a row this season, but that could change when they continue a four-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday.
Tied with Atlanta for the National League's best record, Milwaukee hasn't dropped four consecutive games since enduring a 10-game skid that ended last September 3.
Jeff Suppan (5-3, 3.00 ERA) starts for the Brewers and will look to begin another personal winning streak. Prior to losing to the New York Mets on Friday, the righthander had won five consecutive starts. He hasn't faced the Phillies this season and was 0-1 against them in one start a year ago.
Philadelphia starter Cole Hamels (5-1, 3.46) is after his fourth victory in as many starts. The 23-year-old lefthander has pitched seven or more innings in each of his last three starts for the Phillies, who are trying to reach the .500 mark for the first time this season.
Carlos Ruiz hit a game-winning home run off reliever Derrick Turnbow to give the Phillies a 4-3 victory on Tuesday. It was the second straight comeback victory for Philadelphia over Milwaukee after using a six-run eighth inning to post an 8-6 win on Monday.
Philadelphia has weathered the absence of reigning NL MVP Ryan Howard so far with Greg Dobbs ably filling in. Dobbs also homered in Tuesday's win and is hitting .360 (9-for-25) with two homers, six RBI and six runs in his seven starts this season.
Milwaukee is one win away from its 10th road victory of the season. The team didn't accomplish that feat until June 12 last season.
