RHP Oswalt, Astros look for series sweep of Giants
May 17, 2007 - 1:53 PM San Francisco (19-20) at Houston (20-19) 8:05 pm EDTHOUSTON (Ticker) -- The Houston Astros are on a roll and Roy Oswalt hopes to keep it that way.
The surging Astros go for their fourth straight win when they face the San Francisco Giants on Thursday. Houston seeks its first three-game sweep of San Francisco since July 17-19, 1998.
Oswalt (6-2, 3.14 ERA) is the perfect candidate to help the Astros complete the sweep. He has won his last three starts since dropping two straight. The hard-throwing righthander struck out seven in six innings to help the Astros post a 10-4 triumph over the Arizona Diamondbacks last Saturday.
Mark Loretta drove in a run in the fourth inning and rookie Hunter Pence delivered his fifth homer one frame later for Houston in Wednesday's 2-1 victory over the Giants.
Since being called up from the minors on April 27, Pence has four homers and 15 RBI in 16 games. He is 7-for-7 in this series.
Tim Lincecum (1-0, 5.56) will make his third start of the season for the Giants. The 22-year-old rookie gave up only two earned runs and seven hits in seven innings in an 8-3 win at Colorado last Friday.
San Francisco slugger Barry Bonds is homerless in his last six games. He needs 11 to surpass Hank Aaron's all-time record of 756.
