White Sox go for their fourth straight series win vs. Yankees

May 17, 2007 - 2:28 PM NY Yankees (18-20) at Chi White Sox (19-17) 2:05 pm EDT

CHICAGO (Ticker) - With a chance to nail down another series, the Chicago White Sox look to Jon Garland.

Garland and the White Sox look to win the rubber match of their three-game set vs. the New York Yankees on Thursday.

Chicago split a day-night doubleheader Wednesday, winning the first game, 5-3, before dropping the nightcap, 8-1. The teams had to play two because of a rain postponement the day before.

Garland (2-2, 3.44 ERA) takes the rubber looking for his third straight win this month after going winless in April. The righthander, who has pitched at least seven innings in six straight starts, hopes to earn his first home victory against New York.

Garland is 0-4 with a 4.67 ERA here vs. the Yankees. The 27-year-old could use some run support after allowing three runs or less in three of the outings. His team however has only produced four runs in those games.

New York sends rookie Matt DeSalvo (1-0, 1.98) to the mound after he earned his first career win by allowing two runs and seven hits over 6 2/3 innings in a 7-2 win at the Seattle Mariners on Saturday.

The righthander, whose first two starts of his career were against the Mariners, hopes to get the run support that Chien-Ming Wang received in the second game on Wednesday night.

Derek Jeter extended his hitting streak to 11 games with an RBI triple in the seventh. Jorge Posada also did that, blasting a solo home run in the ninth inning for his 202nd as a Yankee.

However, Alex Rodriguez went 0-for-8 in the twinbill and is just 2-for-25 (.080) without an RBI in his last seven games.
