Royals open interleague play against Rockies
May 18, 2007 - 2:08 PM Kansas City (15-27) at Colorado (17-24) 9:05 pm EDTDENVER (Ticker) -- The Kansas Royals hope to keep their recent success going when they visit the Colorado Rockies in the opener of their interleague series on Friday.
The Royals have won four of their last five games, including Thursday's 7-4 victory over the Oakland Athletics.
Mark Teahen and Mike Sweeney combined for four hits, two RBI and three runs scored for Kansas City, which was swept in a three-game seres by the Rockies in 2005.
"Any series win is big for us; we just gotta start stringing them together," said Kansas City pitcher Scott Elarton, who is a former Rockie.
After his most stellar performance this season, Jorge De La Rosa (4-3, 3.68 ERA) gets the ball for the Royals. The lefthander yielded one run and three hits in seven innings in an 11-1 win last Sunday against the Chicago White Sox.
The Rockies will counter with Jeff Francis (2-4, 5.08), who is searching for his first pair of wins since mid-September. Last Saturday, the lefthander allowed only two runs in eight innings of a 6-2 triumph.
Francis yielded two runs in seven innings in a win over the Royals on June 25, 2005.
Kansas City's Emil Brown had 24 hits with a homer and 12 RBI in 16 games in interleague play last year.
