Blue Jays go for series win over Phillies
May 20, 2007 - 1:21 PM Toronto (19-23) at Philadelphia (21-22) 1:35 pm EDTPHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Few teams in the major leagues have had to endure as many debilitating injuries as the Toronto Blue Jays.
Toronto goes for its fifth win in the last six contests when it visits the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday in the rubber game of their three-game series.
The Blue Jays are without starters Roy Halladay, Gustavo Chacin and Victor Zambrano as well as closer B.J. Ryan, leadoff hitter Reed Johnson and starting catcher Gregg Zaun.
They send rookie Jesse Litsch (1-0, 1.04 ERA) to the mound Sunday. The 22-year-old righthander made a splash in his debut last Tuesday against Baltimore, allowing one run in 8 2/3 innings.
The Phillies will counter with Adam Eaton (3-3, 6.42). The veteran righthander turned in his best outing of the season last Tuesday against Milwaukee, but did not factor in the decision.
Eaton lasted 7 2/3 innings, surrendering just two runs - one earned - and four hits while striking out five.
Toronto handed Philadelphia its worst defeat of the season on Saturday, pounding out 14 hits in a 13-2 drubbing.
