Sabathia goes for seventh win as Indians host Mariners

May 21, 2007 - 2:15 PM Seattle (19-20) at Cleveland (26-15) 7:05 pm EDT

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- C.C. Sabathia will attempt to become the majors second seven-game winner when the Cleveland Indians host the Seattle Mariners on Monday.

With a win, Sabathia (6-1, 3.65 ERA) would match Boston Red Sox hurler Josh Beckett for the major league lead. The Indians have thrived when the lefthander is on the mound, going 8-1 in games he's started.

Sabathia rebounded from his worst start of the season with one of his best starts Wednesday, allowing one run in eight innings during a 7-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins. In his previous outing on May 11 at Oakland, he allowed a season-high six runs in 6 2/3 innings during a 7-2 Athletics' victory.

Seattle starter Cha Seung Baek (1-1, 5.16) is coming off his first loss of the season, a 5-0 setback to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Wednesday. The 6-4 righthander allowed three runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Ichiro Suzuki has a 13-game hitting streak and has had multiple hits in seven consecutive games for Seattle. During the streak, the leadoff hitter is batting .472 (26-for-55) with 11 runs and 10 stolen bases.

Jose Vidro has a hit in 27 of his last 34 games for Mariners, raising his batting average from .067 to .300 in the process.

Grady Sizemore is batting .444 (12-for-27) with two home runs and five RBI during the Indians' current homestand.

The Indians have the best home record in the majors at 16-4.
