Devil Rays hopes to end three-game slide
May 22, 2007 - 1:38 PM Seattle (19-21) at Tampa Bay (18-25) 7:10 pm EDTST. PETERSBURG, Florida (Ticker) -- The Tampa Bay Devil Rays will try to snap their current skid as they meet the Seattle Mariners in the opener of a three-game series on Tuesday.
Tampa Bay did not do well in its interleague weekend series with Florida, getting outscored 19-9 during a three-game sweep this past weekend.
Scott Kazmir (2-2, 3.83 ERA) takes the ball for the Devil Rays in search of his first win in four outing. The lefthander struck out nine but lasted just four innings in a no-decision against Texas last Thursday.
Kazmir is 2-0 with a 1.47 ERA in three lifetime starts vs. Seattle, which is batting just under .200 against the former All-Star.
The Mariners will counter with Jarrod Washburn (3-4, 3.35), who was tagged for six runs and nine hits in six frames of a 7-3 setback to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Washburn looks to continue his success against the Devil Rays, posting an impressive 9-2 record with a 2.61 ERA in 13 career starts. In his most recent outing vs. Tampa, the lefthander threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings last campaign.
Seattle All-Star outfielder Ichiro Suzuki has a .450 (27-for-60) average during his current 14-game hitting streak.
