Mariners look to continue success against Devil Rays
May 23, 2007 - 2:25 PM Seattle (20-21) at Tampa Bay (18-26) 7:10 pm EDTST. PETERSBURG, Florida (Ticker) -- The Seattle Mariners are looking to get healthy against Tampa Bay, whom they have dominated recently.
Miguel Batista(3-4, 6.15 ERA) takes the mound in the middle game of a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Wednesday.
Seattle, which has lost five of eight, will be looking to beat Tampa Bay for the 10th time in the last 13 meetings.
Seattle took the opener behind six-plus innings from Jarrod Washburn and a key two-out hit by Richie Sexson that tied the game. Yuniesky Betancourt hit a go-ahead homer in the sixth inning of a 5-2 victory.
Batista allowed just two runs in four of his past five starts. The righthander allowed four runs - one earned - and six hits in 6 2/3 innings in an 8-1 loss to San Diego last Friday.
Meanwhile, Casey Fossum (3-3, 7.80) has been on the other end of the spectrum. The lefthander has allowed six or more runs in four of his last five starts. Fossum picked up a win in his last start despite allowing six runs and nine hits in five innings against Texas last Wednesday.
Tampa Bay has lost a season-high four in a row after winning a season-high four straight. The Devil Rays have been outscored, 24-9 during the losing streak.
