RHP Garland seeks fourth straight win for White Sox

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Jon Garland and the Chicago White Sox will try to complete a three-game sweep against the Oakland Athletics in the series finale on Wednesday.

Garland (3-2, 3.18 ERA) has surrendered just five runs in his last three starts. He yielded one run in seven innings of a 4-1 victory over the New York Yankees last week.

Garland is just 3-6 with a 4.31 ERA in 11 career outings against Oakland and has not posted a win in the series since July 2, 2005.

On Tuesday, Jim Thome belted a three-run home run and drove in five runs as the White Sox posted a 10-4 victory.

Thome returned from a 3 1/2-week stint on the disabled list on Sunday. Coming off a 42-home run season in 2006, Thome had been on the disabled list since April 28 with a strained muscle near his right rib cage.

"Everyone in our lineup did a heck of a job," Thome said. "We've got guys who grind it out. All these guys are great hitters. For me personally, it's a pleasure to be in the lineup."

Oakland's Chad Gaudin (3-1, 2.94) takes the ball after allowing two runs in six innings of last Friday's 15-3 win against the San Francisco Giants.

In their last matchup, Gaudin and Garland both failed to receive a decision as Oakland squeezed out a 2-1 triumph here on April 10.
