Dodgers aim for series victory in finale
May 23, 2007 - 3:36 PM Milwaukee (28-18) at LA Dodgers (26-20) 10:10 pm EDTLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- With their losing skid now in the rearview mirror, the Los Angeles Dodgers can focus on attending to what is truly important in the regular season - winning series.
The Dodgers go for the series win in the rubber game of a three-game set against the Milwaukee Brewers at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday.
Los Angeles ended its four-game losing streak on Tuesday with a lot of help from early-season stalwarts Russell Martin and Randy Wolf. To win the rubber game, they will call on another player that has stepped up for the team in the early going.
Brad Penny (5-1, 2.54 ERA) looks to rebound from his a horrendous outing against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Friday, when he surrendered eight runs and eight hits in five innings for his shortest outing of the season.
The eight runs by Penny also matched the number of earned runs the righthander had allowed in his first eight starts combined.
Penny, who was leading the National League with a 1.39 ERA before his setback against the Angels, is 2-2 with a 5.65 ERA in six career starts against the Brewers.
Chris Capuano (5-2, 3.72) gets the start for the Brewers hoping to end a personal three-game losing streak. Over his last two outings, the lefthander has allowed 10 runs and 14 hits over just 9 1/3 innings. On Friday, Capuano surrendered a season-high six runs over 5 1/3 innings in an 8-1 loss against Minnesota.
Capuano did not factor into the decision when the Brewers and Dodgers met on April 3, but is 2-2 with a 2.93 ERA in eight lifetime appearances - seven starts.
Martin, who blasted a two-run homer in Tuesday's game, is hitting .667 (6-for-9) with a home run and four RBI in his career against Capuano. He was 3-for-5 with a homer, a double and two RBI on April 3, when the Dodgers faced Capuano in Miller Park.
