Bacsik, Nationals face Reds in series finale

May 24, 2007 - 1:38 PM Washington (18-29) at Cincinnati (18-29) 7:10 pm EDT

CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- The Washington Nationals will try to take three of four in their series against the Cincinnati Reds.

Mike Bacsik (0-0, 0.00 ERA) has the task of closing out the series for the Nationals. In his last outing, the lefthander threw six scoreless innings but did not figure in the decision of a 3-2 loss against Baltimore.

Ryan Church delivered two homers and drove in a career-high six runs as Washington coasted to a 12-7 victory. Church returned to the lineup after missing Tuesday's matchup because of a swollen left forearm.

"It was one of those nights where I was getting my pitch to hit," Church said. "My forearm is a little swollen. It swelled after my first AB (at-bat) but I can play through it. I'm just not trying to press and keep hitting the ball."

The Nationals' 12 runs matched their highest output since moving from Montreal. They have outscored the Reds, 27-19, in the series.

Cincinnati's Matt Belisle (4-3, 4.58) takes the ball in the finale. Despite allowing four runs and 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings, Belisle still recorded the win at Cleveland on Saturday.

The righthander is 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA in four lifetime appearances vs. Washington, including a 12-3 victory on May 25, 2005 in his lone start.
