Hernandez returns to the mound for Mets

MIAMI (Ticker) - The New York Mets are slumping a bit and Orlando Hernandez can change some of that when they visit the Florida Marlins on Friday.

Hernandez (2-1, 2.53 ERA) makes his first starts since going in the disabled list with right shoulder bursitis last month. In his last outing, the Cuban righthander was impressive, giving up four hits in seven scoreless innings against Atlanta on April 24. Hernandez, who has won all three of his outings at Dolphin Stadium, is 3-1 with a 4.07 ERA in four career starts against the Marlins.

Florida counters with Sergio Mitre (2-2, 2.25), who aims for his third consecutive winning start for the first time in his career. Mitre has allowed five earned runs with a lowly 1.57 ERA over 28 2/3 innings over his four outings.

All-Star Miguel Cabrera stroked the game-winning double in the 11th inning as the Marlins captured their fifth win in six games with a 5-4 victory over Philadelphia on Thursday.
