Reyes eyes first win of season in series opener

May 25, 2007 - 2:22 PM Washington (19-29) at St. Louis (19-25) 8:10 pm EDT

ST. LOUIS (Ticker) - Anthony Reyes looks for his first win of the season Friday when he takes the mound for the St. Louis Cardinals in the opener of a three-game series against the Washington Nationals.

Reyes (0-7. 5.84 ERA) was impressive in beating the Detroit Tigers in Game One of the World Series last October. But the righthander has been a major disappointment this season, failing to win any of his eight starts.

Reyes is coming off his worst start of the season, surrendering season highs in runs (seven) and hits (nine) over 5 2/3 innings of an 8-7 loss to Detroit on Saturday.

St. Louis is looking to match a season-high four-game winning streak. The Cardinals are 17-10 against teams below .500 but just 2-15 vs. winning teams.

The Nationals enter looking to match a four-game winning streak. Since a 9-25 start, Washington has gone an impressive 10-4.

Micah Bowie (0-2, 3.98) makes his second straight start for Washington after 20 relief appearances. Making his first start since September 29, 1999, Bowie allowed two runs and four hits over 3 1/3 innings in a 4-3 win over Baltimore on Sunday.

St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina is batting .373 (19-for-51) during a 15-game hitting streak. It is the longest streak by a Cardinal since Albert Pujols' 17-game run in 2005.
