Maddux aims to get back on track as Padres face Brewers
May 25, 2007 - 2:47 PM Milwaukee (28-19) at San Diego (26-21) 10:05 pm EDTSAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Coming off one of his worst outings of the season, Greg Maddux returns to a place of recent success.
Maddux seeks his fourth straight win at Petco Park when the San Diego Padres host the Milwaukee Brewers in the opener of a three-game series on Friday.
Maddux (3-3, 4.14 ERA) allowed seven runs and 12 hits in 3 2/3 innings of a 7-4 loss at the Seattle Mariners last Saturday. But the four-time Cy Young Award winner has been on top of his game at home.
Since dropping his first start here on April 6, Maddux has yielded just three runs in 22 innings in his last three outings at home.
The Padres enter the series with five wins of their last seven games despite dropping a 3-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Thursday.
Milwaukee will counter with Dave Bush (3-4, 5.56), who allowed five runs and eight hits in 7 1/3 frames in a 5-2 loss vs. Minnesota last Saturday. He has struggled on the road lately, posting an 0-1 mark with a 7.47 ERA in his last three road outings.
The Brewers have lost eight of their last 11 games, including a 5-1 setback at the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday. Bill Hall had two hits and a RBI for Milwaukee, which remained winless in the nine games in which it has been held under three runs.
Brewers rookie outfielder Tony Gwynn, Jr., whose father was one of the best players in Padres' history, will play his first game in his young career in San Diego on Friday.
