Angels aim for continued success vs. Yankees

May 26, 2007 - 1:17 PM LA Angels (29-20) at NY Yankees (21-25) 1:05 pm EDT

BRONX, New York (Ticker) -- The New York Yankees have had success against most teams since manager Joe Torre has been on the bench, except for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Vladimir Guerrero and Casey Kotchman each had three hits and two RBI as the Angels rolled to a 10-6 victory over the Yankees on Friday in the opener of a three-game series.

The victory continued the success against New York for Anaheim, which is the only team with a winning record against the 26-time World Series champions since Torre took over in 1996.

The Angels have won 16 of their last 24 regular-season matchups with the Yankees and also have eliminated them in two first-round series since 2002.

Anaheim will look to continue that success behind Kelvim Escobar (5-2, 2.82 ERA), who is coming off one of his best outings of the season. The righthander allowed just three hits in eight scoreless innings in a 4-1 win vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers last Sunday.

Escobar is 3-4 with a 6.19 ERA in a 17 career appearances at Yankee Stadium, including nine starts.

He will be opposed by New York's ace Chien-Ming Wang (3-3, 4.28 ERA), who is looking for his third straight win. He allowed two runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings in a 6-2 win over Boston on Monday.

The righthander will be making his second career regular-season start against the Angels. He allowed five runs and 13 hits in 5 1/3 frames in a 5-3 loss on August 13 in his lone outing.

Wang also lost Game Two the 2005 Division Series to Anaheim.
