Mariners look to continue success vs. Royals
May 26, 2007 - 1:49 PM Seattle (22-22) at Kansas City (19-30) 7:10 pm EDTKANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- The Seattle Mariners aim for their fourth win in five games when they visit the Kansas City Royals on Saturday.
Ichiro Suzuki, Jose Vidro and Richie Sexson each had two RBI as the Mariners rolled to a 10-2 victory on Friday. Suzuki extended his hitting streak with his 24th career leadoff homer, tying Lou Brock for 15th on the all-time.
However, the win was bitter sweet as starter Felix Hernandez left with stiffness in his back. The 21-year-old was making his third start after recovering from a right elbow injury that forced him to the disabled list on April 23.
Cha Seung Baek (1-2, 5.50 ERA) takes the ball for Seattle with the hopes of ending his personal two-game slide. In his last outing, the righthander allowed five runs in 6 1/3 innings of a 5-2 setback to Cleveland on Monday.
The Royals will send Brain Bannister (0-2, 4.39), who gave up three runs and five hits in five frames for his second straight no-decision.
In an earlier matchup, Beck and Bannister met with Seattle coming away with a 5-1 victory on April 29 - neither pitcher managed to figure in the decision.
