Orioles' Cabrera looks to rebound against Athletics
May 27, 2007 - 1:02 PM Oakland (24-24) at Baltimore (22-27), 1:35 pm EDTBALTIMORE (Ticker) -- The Baltimore Orioles starter Daniel Cabrera looks to rebound from his shortest outing of the season when he faces the Oakland Athletics on Sunday.
Cabrera (3-5, 4.66 ERA) allowed five earned runs in 4 2/3 innings in a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday. In the start before that, on May 15, the 6-7 righthander had pitched a season-high eight innings against the Blue Jays, but was a hard-luck loser as the Orioles fell 2-1.
In two career starts against the Athletics, Cabrera is 0-2 with a 15.00 ERA, but he has not faced Oakland since April 6, 2005.
Oakland's Joe Blanton (4-2, 3.59) also is coming off one of his shortest outings of the season. He allowed six runs - four earned - in 5 1/3 innings in Oakland's 8-5 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Monday.
Prior to that, he had pitched seven or more innings in each of his last five starts, including a nine-inning effort in Oakland's 2-0 loss against the Seattle Mariners on April 25.
The Orioles beat the Athletics 8-3 on Saturday, marking just the third time in the last 17 meetings here that Baltimore has prevailed. Miguel Tejada hit his second home run in his last three games after 100 at-bats without a one.
Eric Chavez returned to the Oakland lineup lineup after missing the previous three games with a sore triceps muscle. Though held hitless, Chavez has 20 home runs in 70 career games against Baltimore.
Nick Swisher homered for the second time in as many games Saturday and four of his eight home runs this season have come in Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
