Burnett looks to continue strong month against Twins
May 27, 2007 - 1:06 PM Toronto (22-26) at Minnesota (23-25) 2:10 pm EDTMINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- After Saturday's 13-inning marathon, the Toronto Blue Jays hope that A.J. Burnett can give everybody a rest.
Burnett and the Blue Jays finish their three-game set on Sunday against the Minnesota Twins at the Metrodome.
Fourteen pitchers saw action during Saturday's 9-8, 13-inning Toronto win. As a result, both teams are hoping - and likely expecting - both starting pitchers can go deep into Sunday's game, something Burnett has done quite a bit of lately.
Burnett (5-3, 4.14 ERA) is on a personal three-game winning streak, including a eight-strikeout performance in his last time out over 6 2/3 innings. The righthander is 3-0 with a 2.42 ERA in the three starts he has made since ace Roy Halladay landed on the disabled list on May 11, striking out 28 and walking nine in that span.
Burnett is 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in one career outing against the Twins.
Carlos Silva (2-5, 4.47), opposes Burnett and wants to dodge a career-worst fifth straight start for the Twins. He suffered his worst outing of the season on Monday against the Rangers, allowing seven runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings in a 14-4 loss.
The righthander is looking for his first home win of the season, having gone 0-2 despite a 2.55 ERA in his first four starts this year at the Metrodome. He is 0-2 with a 7.50 ERA in two career starts against the Blue Jays.
