RHP Tavarez look for third straight win as Red Sox go for sweep

ARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) -- Julian Tavarez takes the mound looking for his third straight win as the Boston Red Sox aim for a three-game sweep of the Texas Rangers on Sunday.

Tavarez (3-4, 5.27 ERA) has won his past two starts, yielding just three runs over his last 12 2/3 innings. Tavarez held the New York Yankees to two runs and three hits in 5 2/3 innings in a 7-3 win on Tuesday.

Boston won, 7-4, Saturday night behind a 4-for-4 performance from Manny Ramirez, who finished a home run shy of a cycle. Kevin Youkilis extended his hitting streak to 18 games in the win.

The Red Sox boast the major's best record, as well as an 11 1/2 game lead over the Yankees in the American League East.

Meanwhile, Texas has lost four in a row, and will send a struggling Kameron Loe to the mound. Loe (1-4, 6.38) is 0-4 with a 7.60 ERA in his last six starts. His last win came on April 21 vs. Oakland. In his last start Loe allowed five runs and eight hits in six innings as Texas lost 7-1 to Minnesota on Tuesday.

In that game, Sammy Sosa hit home run No. 598, leaving him two homers shy of becoming the fifth player in major-league history to hit 600.
