Struggling Brewers try to avoid sweep in San Diego
May 27, 2007 - 2:01 PM Milwaukee (28-21) at San Diego (28-21), 4:05 pm EDTSAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- After storming out of the gate to start the season, the Milwaukee Brewers are beginning to fall back to the pack.
The Brewers will be trying to avoid their 11th loss in 14 games and a three-game series sweep when they visit the San Diego Padres on Sunday.
Milwaukee began the season 25-11 but has struggled as of late, partly due to the fact that they've played 12 of their last 15 games on the road, where they are 11-14 this season.
Jeff Suppan (6-4, 3.49 ERA) will start for the Brewers, who have lost four consecutive games. The righthander had a 2.55 ERA through six starts this season, but that number has consistently increased during his past four outings.
Suppan also has also been victimized by home runs recently, allowing four over his last three starts after allowing just two over his first seven.
The Padres counter with Jake Peavy (6-1, 1.63), who owns the best ERA in the majors. The righthander is 3-0 with a 1.00 ERA and 31 strikeouts over his last four starts. However, Peavy is 1-2 with a 3.51 ERA in six career starts against Milwaukee.
Mike Cameron hit a two-run home run in Saturday's 6-3 win here as the Padres improved to 22-11 all-time against the Brewers in San Diego.
