Tigers try to get back on track against Devil Rays
May 28, 2007 - 1:16 PM Detroit (29-20) at Tampa Bay (20-28), 7:10 pm EDTST. PETERSBURG, Florida (Ticker) - The Detroit Tigers try to bounce back from a lost weekend when they visit the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Monday.
The Tigers are coming off a three-game series sweep by their American League Central Division rivals, the Cleveland Indians. Detroit, which entered the series in first place in the division, now find themselves 2 1/2 games back of the Indians after Sunday's 5-3 loss.
Chad Durbin (4-1, 4.74 ERA) will start for the Tigers, who are playing their first and only series in Tampa Bay this season. The righthander is 4-0 in his last six starts. The Devil Rays counter with Edwin Jackson (0-6, 7.78), who has yet to secure a victory in eight starts this season. He spent the majority of last season in the Tampa Bay bullpen and hasn't won a start since September 26, 2005 when he was with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
If Jackson can get the ball to closer Al Reyes, he'll be in good shape. The 37-year-old righthander is a perfect 13-for-13 in save opportunities to start the season - a team record. The overall club record for consecutive successful saves is 19, a mark set by Roberto Hernandez in 1999.
In his last 22 games, Detroit's Magglio Ordonez is batting .378 (31-for-82) with eight home runs and 20 RBI.
While the all-time series is knotted at 34 games apiece, Detroit is 3-0-1 in its last fours series against Tampa Bay.
