Pirates look to complete sweep of Reds
May 28, 2007 - 1:21 PM Pittsburgh (22-27) at Cincinnati (18-33) 1:15 pm EDTCINCINNATI (Ticker) - Ian Snell takes the mound as the Pittsburgh Pirates try to accomplish something not done since the Barry Bonds era.
Snell (4-3, 3.06 ERA) will try and help the Pirates complete a four-game road sweep of the Cincinnati Reds for the first time since in almost 16 years on Monday.
Pittsburgh, which last swept a four game set in Cincinnati on July 11-14 of 1991, is looking for its fourth straight win. Pittsburgh has not won more than three straight vs. the Reds since winning five in a row during the 2004 campaign. Snell, who allowed four runs and seven hits over six innings in a 5-3 loss to St. Louis on Wednesday, is 2-1 with a 3.24 ERA in five career starts vs. the Reds.
For Cincinnati, things cannot get much worse. The Reds have the league's worst record, and have lost 20 of their last 25 games. Kyle Lohse (1-6, 5.31) has been one of the main culprits during their season-high six-game losing streak.
Lohse, who has allowed five or more runs in four of his past six starts, is trying to snap a career-high six-game skid.
