Rockies look to continue winning ways against Cardinals
May 28, 2007 - 1:28 PM St Louis (20-27) at Colorado (23-27) 3:05 pm EDTDENVER (Ticker) - The Colorado Rockies look to run their season-high winning streak to six games when they host the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday.
Colorado has not won six in a row since May 21-26, 2002. Colorado sends a hot-hand to the mound in Jeff Francis (3-4, 4.11 ERA), who is 2-0 with a 1.54 ERA over his last four starts - one of which was against the Cardinals on May 7. The 6-5 lefthander did not receive a decision in that game - a 3-2 Rockies win - though ahe allowed just two runs and four hits and three walks in seven innings.
Cardinals starter Kip Wells (2-8, 6.10) finally got back into the win column in his last start after enduring losses in seven consecutive starts. The righthander allowed two runs - one earned - in seven innings during the Cardinals 5-3 win against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday. Wells is 0-1 with a 6.04 ERA in four career starts against the Rockies.
Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols had three hits on Sunday in a loss to the Washington Nationals to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. During the streak, he is batting .489 (22-for-45) with two home runs, but he's driven in just five runs.
St. Louis has hit just 11 home runs this month, which is fewest in the majors. Five of the long balls have come off the bat of Chris Duncan.
