Phillies' Garcia looks for first win in a month

May 28, 2007 - 1:30 PM Arizona (29-23) at Philadelphia (26-24) 7:05 pm EDT

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - The Philadelphia Phillies are swinging hot bats. Freddy Garcia hopes that continues.

Garcia takes the mound against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the opener of a three-game series on Monday.

Garcia (1-3, 4.81 ERA) is hoping to notch his first win in over a month. Garcia hopes the Phillies, who lead the National League in runs scored, can build on Sunday's season-best 13 run outburst.

In his last start, Garcia allowed three runs and five hits in six innings, but did not factor into the decision in a 8-7 win over Florida on Wednesday. Garcia has not won since beating the Cincinnati Reds on April 22.

Ryan Howard went 3-for-4 with two homers to help the Phillies finish a three-game sweep in which they outscored the Atlanta Braves 27-13.

Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are also riding high after a four-game sweep of the Houston Astros. Arizona's offense in clicking as well, having outscored Houston 35-12 in the four games.

Doug Davis (2-6, 3.57) takes the mound for Arizona, which has lost six its past eight meetings with Philadelphia. In his last time out, Davis was stellar but lost due to lack of run support. The righthander allowed just two runs and six hits in seven innings in a 2-0 loss to Colorado on Wednesday.

Overall, he has received just three runs in his last five starts, going 0-4 during that stretch. To make matters worse, Davis has lost all five of his road starts this season.
