Angels host hard-hitting Mariners

May 29, 2007 - 2:06 PM Seattle (25-22) at LA Angels (31-21) 10:05 pm EDT

ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will try to cool off the red-hot bats of the Seattle Mariners when the teams meet in the second of a three-game series on Tuesday.

Over their last 12 games, the Mariners are batting .328 (147-for-448) and have scored 74 runs, including 50 over their last last five games.

Seattle beat the Angels, 12-5, here on Monday as Adrian Beltre homered twice. Richie Sexson added a three-run shot and Jose Guillen hit a solo homer as the Mariners pounded out 15 hits.

Anaheim starter Ervin Santana (3-6, 6.00 ERA) will have the unenviable task of trying to slow down the upstart Mariners, who have won four straight to climb within 3 1/2 games of the first-place Angels in the American League West Division.

Santana beat the Mariners on April 22, holding them to one run in seven innings in a 6-1 victory. However, the righthander is coming off a disastrous start on Thursday against the Tigers as he allowed eight runs over 3 2/3 innings in a 12-0 loss.

Ryan Feierabend (NR) will be making his first start of the season for the Mariners and just the third start of his career. The 21-year-old lefthander made two starts for the Mariners at the end of last season and went 0-1 with an 5.73 ERA.

Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki has a 21-game hitting streak and the pesky leadoff hitter is batting .419 (39-for-93) with two home runs and 20 runs over that span. He is two away from matching his career-best hitting streak of 23 games set in 2001.

The Mariners have just four wins against the Angels in their last 17 meetings.
