Phillies hope to bounce back

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - The Philadelphia Phillies battled for the better part of two months to finally get over the .500 mark and they will try and stay there on Tuesday when they meet the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Phillies had their three-game win streak snapped by the Diamondbacks on Monday in a 5-4 defeat. Doug Davis outdueled Freddy Garcia and Arizona withstood a late rally by Philadelphia to win its fifth straight and for the eighth time in 10 games.

Despite the loss, the Phillies (26-25) received some good news. Garcia pitched a season-high eight innings and Ryan Howard hit another home run. Howard is now 5-for-15 with three home runs and seven RBIs since returning from the disabled list last Friday.

Philadelphia started the season a disappointing 3-10 before starting the turn things around. They are 23-15 since the wrethced starts and send Jon Lieber (2-2, 3.45 ERA) to the mound Tuesday in hopes of starting another win streak.

Lieber is 1-2 in four starts this month and is coming off a no-decision in a 5-4 loss to Florida on Thursday. Lieber allowed four runs and six hits in six innings.

Lieber will be opposed by Micah Owings (3-1, 4.10), who tossed his first career complete game on Thursday. Owings gave up a run and nine hits with a season-high eight strikeouts in beating Houston.
