Padres seek fourth straight win
May 29, 2007 - 2:37 PM San Diego (29-21) at Pittsburgh (22-28) 7:05 pm EDTPITTSBURGH (Ticker) - The San Diego Padres will try to push their winning streak to four games when they face the Pittsburgh Pirates in the opener of a three-game series. on Tuesday.
The Padres are coming off their weekend series sweep of the National League-leading Milwaukee Brewers, including Sunday's 3-0 triumph. San Diego has won eight of its last 10 games overall.
David Wells (2-2, 4.85 ERA) takes the ball for the Padres. In his last outing, Wells yielded one run and five hits in seven innings for a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs last Wednesday.
The 44-year-old has been on top of his game recently, allowing just two runs with two walks through his past two starts. Wells is 0-2 over two career starts against the Pirates.
Pittsburgh's Tom Gorzelanny (5-3, 2.51) looks to get back on track after failing to record a win over his last two outings. The lefthander gave up two runs and 10 hits in 5 1/3 frames of a 3-1 setback at St. Louis.
