LHP Perez looks to guide Mets to fourth straight win
May 29, 2007 - 2:41 PM San Francisco (24-25) at NY Mets (32-17) 7:10 pm EDTFLUSHING, New York (Ticker) - The New York Mets seek their fourth win in a row when the San Francisco Giants come calling in the opener of a three-game series Tuesday.
New York sends Oliver Perez (6-3, 2.54 ERA) to the hill. He goes for his fourth straight win after tossing strong innings of a 3-0 triumph at Atlanta last Wednesday.
As one of the Mets biggest surprises this season, Perez won four consecutive decisions from May 21-June 11, 2005 as a member of the Pittsburgh Pittsburgh. But if the lefthander is to continue his stellar campaign he has to overcome his 0-4 record against the Giants.
David Wright and Carlos Delgado each had an RBI in Sunday's 6-4 victory as New York completed a three-game series sweep of the Florida Marlins this past weekend.
San Francisco will give the ball to rookie Tim Lincecum (2-0, 3.08), who allowed two runs and five hits through eight frames in a 4-2 win vs. Houston on Tuesday.
The righthander has an impressive 1.64 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 22 innings over his last three outings.
Giants slugger Barry Bonds enters nine homers behind Hall of Famer Hank Aaron on the all-time list at 746. However, Bonds has not homered in his last five trips to Shea Stadium.
