Astros trying to avoid 10th straight loss
May 30, 2007 - 3:59 PM Cincinnati (20-33) at Houston (21-30) 8:05 pm EDTHOUSTON (Ticker) - The Houston Astros are getting dangerously close to matching their worst losing streak in franchise history.
The Astros will try to avoid their 10th straight loss when they host the Cincinnati Reds in the second game of a three-game series on Wednesday.
Houston has not dropped 10 in a row since August 1995, when the team went on to lose a franchise-record 11 games in a row from August 17-28.
Wandy Rodriguez (2-4, 4.45 ERA) will try to stop the bleeding for Houston and rebound from his last start in the process. The righthander allowed five runs in five innings in the Astros' 9-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday.
Reds' starter Aaron Harang (5-2, 4.50) had a solid start spoiled on Friday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The righthander allowed two runs in eight innings, but did not receive a decision as the teams went to extra innings tied 2-2. The Pirates scored eight runs in the 10th inning for a 10-4 win.
Matt Belisle pitched seven solid innings with a career-high eight strikeouts and Scott Hatteberg hit the deciding home run as the Reds posted a 2-1 victory over the Astros here on Tuesday.
Houston has been outscored, 68-17, during its current losing streak.
