Livingston set to make second start of season for Reds
Jun 1, 2007 - 2:22 PM Cincinnati (21-34) at Colorado (25-29), 9:05 pm EDTDENVER (Ticker) -- The Cincinnati Reds will try anything to stop the losing. On Friday, that will include starting rookie hurler Bobby Livingston.
Livingston will take the mound when the Reds visit the Colorado Rockies on Friday for the first game of a three-game series.
Cincinnati will be glad to turn the page on May. The Reds went 9-21 in the season's second month and now own the National League's worst record.
Perhaps sending a rookie to the mound will give the club the fresh start it clearly needs.
Livingston (0-0, 6.75 ERA) was 0-3 with a 3.88 ERA in nine starts at Class AAA Louisville and struggled in his lone major league start this season. The lefthander yielded four runs and 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings at the Los Angeles Dodgers but picked up a no decision on May 13.
Despite ranking 26th in the majors in team ERA with a 4.71 mark, Cincinnati has yet to recall top pitching prospect Homer Bailey, who owns a 5-1 record with a 1.89 ERA at Louisville.
The Rockies will counter with Taylor Buchholz (2-2, 5.58), who has made six starts this season, going 1-2 with a 5.73 ERA. But he has lasted seven innings in each of his last two outings, allowing a total of four runs.
Colorado put together a season-high seven-game winning streak before dropping its last two contests.
