Colon looks to bounce back against the Orioles
Jun 2, 2007 - 1:54 PM Baltimore (27-28) at LA Angels (34-22), 9:05 pm EDTANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- Bartolo Colon bounced back from shoulder problems strongly earlier this season. But the league seems to have caught up with his diminished fastball.
Colon will try to right the ship on Saturday when the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim host the Baltimore Orioles.
The burly righthander came off the disabled list on April 21 and immediately ran off a string of five wins in his first six starts. Colon averaged over 6 1/3 innings and carried a 3.69 ERA.
However, his last two starts have not gone quite as smoothly. Colon has allowed 15 runs - 14 earned - in 10 2/3 innings, both losses.
The Orioles have always been a good matchup for the 34-year-old righthander, who owns a career 8-5 mark with a 3.20 ERA in 16 starts against them.
Baltimore will counter with Steve Trachsel (4-3, 3.39). The veteran righthander is coming off his first complete game since August 18, 2003 against Colorado when he was with the Mets.
The Orioles had their six game winning streak snapped on Friday when Gary Matthews Jr. singled with the bases loaded in the seventh to give the Angels a 3-2 win behind ace John Lackey.
