Lewis, Giants looks to continue strong June start
Jun 2, 2007 - 2:29 PM San Francisco (26-27) at Philadelphia (26-28) 7:05 pm EDTPHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Most major leaguers don't have the pleasure of hitting a grand slam and going for the cycle over the course of one season or even a career. Since his promotion on May 10, Fred Lewis has turned the trick in less than a month.
The San Francisco Giants continue their four-game series on Saturday with the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.
In their 13-0 series win, Lewis belted his second grand slam of the season. In his third game with the Giants on May 13 in place of the injured Dave Roberts, the 26-year-old rookie hit for the cycle.
After Matt Morris yielded one hit over six scoreless frames on Friday, San Francisco will look for a similar performance from Noah Lowry (5-4, 3.08 ERA), who struggled over four frames in his last outing, his shortest start of the season. He surrendered four runs and seven hits as San Francisco lost to Colorado, 6-4.
The righthander is 2-1 with a 4.94 ERA in four career starts against the Phillies.
Cole Hamels (7-2, 3.74), who ranks just behind San Diego's Jake Peavy for the National League lead in strikeouts, will aim for his sixth win in seven outings. He won his lone career appearance against San Francisco on May 6, surrendering five runs - three earned - and eight hits over seven innings.
The lefthander allowed three runs and six hits with eight strikeouts - his third straight game with that many - in a 13-6 victory over the Braves.
