Bonderman looks for fifth straight win against Tigers

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Jeremy Bonderman is the right man to have on the mound as the Detroit Tigers look to earn a series split with their division rival Cleveland Indians on Sunday.

Bonderman (4-0, 3.34 ERA) tries for his fifth straight win in the finale of a four-game series against Jeremy Sowers.

The righthander has allowed just one earned run in his last 14 1/3 innings, and is coming off a win over the Devil Rays on Tuesday. In that game Bonderman allowed two runs - one earned- and four hits with a season-high tying eight strikeouts.

Detroit, which was swept by Cleveland last weekend at home, finally broke through with a 9-5 win on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Sowers (1-5, 6.29 ERA) has not had the same success as his counterpart. Sowers has allowed 12 runs and 20 hits in his last 18 2/3 innings. On Tuesday, the 24-year-old allowed four runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings in a 4-2 loss to Boston.

The righthander has lost four his last five starts and could be in danger of losing his rotation spot when Jake Westbrook returns from an abdominal injury within the next month or so.
