Wandy goes for Astros in rubber match with Braves

Apr 11, 2012 - 2:35 PM (Sports Network) - Lefty Wandy Rodriguez makes his second start of 2012 tonight when the Houston Astros host the Atlanta Braves to close out a three- game series at Minute Maid Park.

The 33-year-old Dominican, an 11-game winner last season for a Houston team that won just 56 times overall, allowed three unearned runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings of a no-decision against Colorado on April 6.

The Astros lost the game, 5-3.

Rodriguez is 3-2 with a 3.25 earned run average in 11 career appearances against Atlanta, including 10 starts. He's pitched 61 innings against the Braves, allowing 55 hits and 22 earned runs while striking out 57.

In Tuesday's second game, Chipper Jones showed little rust in his 2012 debut on Tuesday, going 2-for-4 with a two-run homer as the Braves topped the Astros, 6-4.

Jones missed the tail end of spring training and the first four games of the season after surgery on March 26 to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee.

Tyler Pastornicky cracked a solo homer, Dan Uggla had an RBI double, while Eric Hinske and Freddie Freeman also knocked in runs for the Braves, who picked up their first win of the season and avoided starting 0-5 for the first time since 1988.

Tommy Hanson (1-1) gave up two runs on six hits and three walks while fanning eight in five innings for the win. Hard-throwing closer Craig Kimbrel secured his first save of 2012 despite allowing the first two runners to reach base in the ninth.

Carlos Lee went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI, while Chris Johnson and Marwin Gonzalez also knocked in runs for the Astros, who fell to 3-2 on the young season. Jordan Schafer finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored.

Eric Weiland (0-1) took the loss after giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings.

Atlanta sends Panamanian-born youngster Randall Delgado to the mound for his eighth career start, and first against Houston.

The 22-year-old made seven starts as a rookie for the Braves in 2011 and split two decisions while posting a 2.83 ERA in 35 innings.

He allowed 29 hits, struck out 18 and walked 14.

The Braves are 10-3 versus the Astros since the start of the 2010 season, with all three losses coming in Houston.
