Brewers look to carry momentum into series with Cubs

Jun 4, 2007 - 2:55 PM Chicago Cubs (23-31) at Milwaukee (32-25), 8:05 pm EDT

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Brewers are getting back on track.

After a stretch of losing 12 of 15 contests, the Brewers seek their fifth win in seven games when they host the Chicago Cubs in the opener of a three-game set.

While the Brewers appear to be pulling out of a slump, the Cubs are in the middle of one. Chicago has dropped 10 of 13 and over the weekend, the team made news for the wrong reasons more than once.

On Friday, Chicago pitcher Carlos Zambrano and catcher Michael Barrett came to blows in the dugout during a loss to the Atlanta Braves. Then, manager Lou Piniella was suspended indefinitely on Sunday by Major League Baseball for his tirade during the eighth inning of Saturday's game against the Braves.

During the incident, Piniella threw his cap to the ground and kicked dirt on umpire Mark Wegner. Numerous video replays showed that Piniella also bumped the second-year umpire.

The Cubs hope starter Jason Marquis (5-2, 2.93 ERA) can turn the focus back to baseball on Monday. After winning five in a row from April 16 to May 9, the righthander is winless in his last four starts.

Milwaukee starter Dave Bush (3-5, 5.64 ERA) also is seeking his first win in four starts. He's allowed at least one home run in each of his last six starts.

The Brewers own the best home record in the National League at 21-10, compared to a 11-15 mark on the road.
